The White House, UNICEF recognize Sun Devils

  • This Monday had only just begun when we found out that Arizona State University’s remote healthcare solutions startup teleScrypts is a top 10 finalist for UNICEF’s #WearablesforGood design challenge.

According to the UNICEF announcement:

“The 10 shortlisted teams consist of innovative designers, engineers and technologists who have all created remarkable new wearable and sensor-based devices capable of helping the world’s most vulnerable people. This is a departure from the current mainstream wearables market, which is mainly focused on lifestyle devices for the developed world. The Wearables for Good design challenge expands that focus, showing how wearables can save lives by tackling maternal and child health issues in the most difficult physical and energy-constrained environments.”

teleScrypts provides remote healthcare solutions through a wearable device that takes patients’ vitals and sends the data to health care workers on their mobile phones via an app. This allows health care workers to be connected with their patients and access digital records any time from virtually anywhere. Read more about teleScrypts here.

The finalists will receive mentoring from experts during the next stage of the design challenge to develop working prototypes. The challenge is being run as a collaboration between UNICEF, British multinational semiconductor and software design company ARM Holdings plc, and the global product strategy and design firm called frog.

  • The White House names young women, including two Sun Devils, Champions of Change
Champions of Change

At ASU, entrepreneurship is a mindset and a skill set. Sun Devils Diali Avila and Amanda Tachine found opportunities to address challenges around them, creating impact as community innovators.

Daily and Amanda are among the 11 women  the White House is naming Champions of Change. Here’s more from whitehouse.gov:

“The White House will recognize young women who are already leading and inspiring their communities as advocates, peer-mentors, artists, innovators, and entrepreneurs as Champions of Change.”

Can you tell how proud we are of these young women and men? All in all, we had a great #MotivationMonday.

What inspires you?
