Community Innovation Summit brings innovative solutions to West Valley non-profits

The ASU Edson E+I Institute’s Peoria Forward Program has partnered for a second year in a row with Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) to host the action-packed Community Innovation Summit. Over the course of two days, groups of EMCC students collaborated virtually and applied entrepreneurial skills to solve COVID-19-related challenges facing local nonprofits. Together, these extremely diverse students demonstrated the power, vibrancy, and innovation in the West Valley!

The participating nonprofits were equally diverse and included Sounds of Autism (an Autism advocacy and service provider), Read Better Be Better (a child literacy and school programming organization), Dysart Community Center (an educational and developmental center for low-income children), and the Reveille Foundation (a veteran support and resource provider). Representatives from each collaborated with EMCC student groups to provide greater detail about how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted their operations as well as to offer feedback as solutions were developed. Throughout this process, students leveraged entrepreneurship resources from a special Canvas course as well as guidance from expert coaches during each breakout session.
