About the speaker:
Duane Layton is the Co-Owner Operator of RL Restaurants with his wife, Alicia Rosenfield Layton, that owns Valley Subs of Arizona LLC and Sub in the Sun LLC. They own and operate 30 Jersey Mike’s stores in and around Phoenix, Ariz.
The company started with four Jersey Mike’s restaurants in its first year, and they have opened 26 additional stores in just ten years. Together, they have provided personal growth opportunities for numerous employees who have moved up in the ranks from hourly employees to multi-unit management leaders. They currently employ around 450 people.
Duane has been a Co-Owner Operator at RL Restaurants since opening it in 2011. Alicia and Duane also owned By the Rockies LLC consisting of 14 Carl’s Jr. restaurants located in Denver, Colo. which they sold in 2020. Prior to opening RL Restaurants, Duane was the director of operations at Rosenfield Restaurants, which owned 200 Hardee’s restaurants; served as an operating partner at Arby’s; was a general training manager at Pizza Hut; and started out in the restaurant industry as an hourly employee.
Duane’s experience in the restaurant industry over the last 30 years has taught him how to run restaurants and be successful in business, but most importantly, it’s taught him and his wife how to motivate people and to attract and retain the best employees.
Duane and Alicia are avid philanthropists donating thousands of dollars to nonprofit organizations including Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Boys & Girls Club of Tucson, and numerous local Schools and organizations.
