The business model canvas is a strategic management tool to quickly and easily define and communicate a business idea or concept. Using just one, easy-to-read page, it outlines nine segments that form the building blocks for a business model. Join HEALab at this 2-part workshop for a deep-dive through the process of completing the business model canvas to gain hands-on experience fleshing out your business idea.

Wiley Larsen is currently the manager of the Postdoctoral Affairs Office, housed within the Graduate College at ASU. He is also co-founder of Saccadous, Inc., a medical device startup commercializing eye-tracking technology for the diagnosis of neurological disorders. Wiley previously served as program manager for the Arizona State University’s Entrepreneurship & Innovation Venture Development program, where he assisted ASU faculty and staff with commercializing their innovations. He also serves as an NSF I-Corps Mentor and a Lean Startup Trainer for VentureWell. Wiley earned his Bachelors in Mathematics from Sterling College and his Masters in Education Administration from Kansas State University.

As ASU’s first accelerator focused solely on health and health care solutions, the Health Entrepreneurship Accelerator Lab (HEALab) is an interdisciplinary initiative between J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute, Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation, College of Health Solutions, and New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences to empower students, faculty, staff and community members to become health innovators who create real solutions to real problems.

Are you interested in solving sustainability issues within the ASU Community or interested in starting a new venture? Want to put something unique and valuable on your resume? Come to the Sustainability Solutions Summit hosted by Changemaker Center is a day-long ideathon taking place virtually on Saturday, January 30th from 1-4 PM (MST).

Designed to bring a diverse group of students together to develop solutions to sustainability issues facing the ASU community. During the event, participants will work in teams (up to 5) to develop solutions to a given problem statement (see link for further details) within the allotted time. At the conclusion of the event, the judges will announce a winner and that team will receive a custom prize package including advancement to Community Action Grants pitch day for the chance to receive up to $2500 in funding along with a connection to an ASU administrator and/or mentor to help move your idea forward. In order to participate, you must register by Thursday, January 28th at 11:59 PM.

Call for Code Virtual Hackathon Presented by IBM and CGI U: Innovation, Equity and Climate Change

February 5, 4 pm MST – February 6, 2021, 5 pm MST

Hosted by Changemaker Central@ASU and the Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute

Through intensive collaboration, ASU students will work together to identify key issues within the environmental justice space; build a solution using at least 1 IBM service or API, along with any other open source technology, to address the issue identified; and prepare a pitch of their innovative, tech-based solution for the event judges review. You don’t need to know how to code to participate. 

Leverage at least 1 IBM service or API to win!

Prizes include: 

  •  An invitation to participate in the 2021 CGI U program for the winning team
  •  $1000 for 1st, $500 for 2nd, and $250 for 3rd place teams

Participants must be 18 years old or older to attend.  No prior coding experience is necessary.

Register by February 3, 2021.
