Verizon Innovative Learning: Middle School Programs

Since 2017, Verizon Innovative Learning and Arizona State University (ASU) collaboratively addresses barriers to digital inclusion in Title 1 Middle Schools and aims to empower students with emerging technology, design thinking, and social innovation to impact their communities. The program arms students with skills to help them succeed in today’s digital world.

As the grant cycle comes to a close, we still want to support program alumni as they work to facilitate the Verizon Innovative Learning program at middle schools across the country. The resources that follow will provide a foundation of information to assist in implementing the program independently.

Curriculum Resources

The Program Sustainability Guide was developed to provide alumni educators from the Verizon Innovative Learning Middle School programs with access to VIL Middle School curriculum. In addition to the program curriculum, educators will have access to curriculum scope and sequences, software and hardware guides and alumni resources for ongoing implementation of the curriculum at their school site.

The Program Sustainability Guide access code was provided via program communications. Please contact us at youthentrepreneurship@asu.edu if you are in need of the access code.

With access to this technology and training, we have transformed our approach to teaching. It’s changed everything for this school.”

Our Impact

The Verizon Innovative Learning Lab curriculum was created to help under-resourced communities bridge the digital divide. These student-centered curriculum tracks Immersive Media, Digital Product Innovations, Smart Solutions, and Artificial Intelligence/Robotics were designed and focused around four key pillars. Design Thinking, Emerging Technology, Entrepreneurial Mindset, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These four pillars are embedded throughout the Verizon Innovative Learning curriculum which is ready for you to leverage and implement into your current instructional setting and placed into your own preferred platform. Your role as the facilitator of the VIL curriculum is to oversee and support your students while they navigate each unit. The goal is to encourage each student to take control of their own learning path, build confidence in decision making, spark interest in STEAM related career opportunities, and prepare the next wave of innovators for the future job force.
