What's Open Pitch?

Pitch your idea, receive feedback and connect with other ASU students interested in entrepreneurship and innovation. Pitching at Open Pitch provides an amazing opportunity to improve your storytelling and could even provide a connection that helps you grow your idea into a venture.

This event, presented by J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute, will be hosted virtually via Zoom. Students have exactly 2 minutes to pitch an idea, no visual aids/PowerPoints/etc. If we have 5 or more students pitch their ideas, there will be a prize of $250 for the “Crowd Favorite!”

Don't want to pitch but are interested in attending? Register to attend as an audience member!

Multiple Open Pitch events will be occurring Sept. 21-25. Due to limited space, please register to pitch an idea only once, as we ask that students do not pitch repeatedly throughout the week. You can attend as an audience member as many times as you would like.

1 Million Cups is open to everyone and invites those from every stage of their entrepreneurial journey to participate. Join this National program, led by local innovators. 1 Million Cups welcomes students, business leaders, founders, and more. Hear from founders, connect with resources. Explore what is happening across the Valley by listening to local founders share their ideas in a friendly 6-minute presentation format with 20 minutes of questions. In Fall 2020, the West Valley and East Valley community will be working together to capture the diversity of our community and serve as a welcome mat for everyone interested in entrepreneurship in Phoenix.

The meeting will be via Zoom through December; registration is required to gain access to the link. 1 Million Cups is always free to attend.

East Valley hosts the 2nd Wednesday of the month, Register here. 

West Valley hosts the 4th Wednesday of the month. Register here.

Who: Ideal for founders who want to deepen their understanding and fine-tune the foundation of their business model to achieve product/market fit and to increase their performance in pitch competitions and other seed funding opportunities.

What: These workshops are focused on assumption/hypothesis-testing, customer-focused discovery process to gather important insights needed to maximize the impact of their venture. The sessions will discuss customer discovery,value proposition, customer segmentation and customer feedback. These workshops will be held on two consecutive Fridays via Zoom.

When: Friday, May 29th , 2020; 11:00 am - 12:30 pm  
            Friday, June 12th, 2020; 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Title: Bookkeeping & Budgeting Basics

Who: ASU-affiliated founders who have already won money and need to get started on their bookkeeping. This course will be facilitated by Marcy Maslov, an experienced accountant, entrepreneur, game inventor and Venture mentor.

What: So you’ve won money, now what? This program will teach you how to set up a budget for your money, create your bookkeeping system, and prepare financial statements. These classes will be hands-on with exercises designed to set up your accounting system, track your expenses and manage your budget.
