Join this National program, led by local innovators. 1 Million Cups welcomes students, business leaders, founders, and more. Hear from founders, connect with resources. Explore what is happening across the Valley by listening to local founders share their ideas in a friendly 6-minute presentation format with 20 minutes of questions. In Spring 2021, the West Valley, East Valley and Central Phoenix communities will be working together to capture the diversity of our community and serve as a welcome mat for everyone interested in entrepreneurship in Metro Valley area.

The Metro Valley chapters of East Valley, West Valley and Central Phoenix are currently teaming up to host shared meetings via Zoom; registration is required to gain access to the link. 1 Million Cups is always free to attend.

Whether you are starting a business, launching a new product or even writing a nonprofit grant, thorough and methodical market research is one of the most important success factors. And, you don’t need a big budget or special marketing expertise to do it. This Business Builder event will help anyone learn to use basic research steps and access the free, world-class resources in our community that are often overlooked. Attendees will meet local business owners who have successfully applied these steps, learn from their experience, and join an interactive discussion to tackle hurdles being faced.

This event is a special collaboration between the Peoria Forward program, an innovative partnership with the J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute at ASU and the City of Peoria, and the Maricopa Small Busines Development Center, a partner program of the Small Business Administration. It will be an online and in-person hybrid event broadcast from Pop-Up Peoria, the new collision space created by the City of Peoria.

Who: Anyone launching or interested in launching a project, business, venture or solution. This is an opportunity to share community expertise!

Where: In-person attendance at Pop-Up Peoria at Park West (9828 West Northern Avenue Peoria, AZ 85345 STE 1750). Virtual attendance is available via televeda (link provided upon registration).

When: Thursday, July 15th 5:30-7:00pm

Learning outcomes: By the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Meet fellow entrepreneurs—including small business owners, creators and makers
  • Identify major stages in the research process and how to navigate
  • Identify helpful tips from experienced entrepreneurs
  • Understand the range of resources offered in the community and via the internet

Who: Ideal for founders who want to deepen their understanding and fine-tune the foundation of their business model to achieve product/market fit and to increase their performance in pitch competitions and other seed funding opportunities.

What: These workshops are focused on assumption/hypothesis-testing, customer-focused discovery process to gather important insights needed to maximize the impact of their venture. The sessions will discuss customer discovery,value proposition, customer segmentation and customer feedback. These workshops will be held on two consecutive Fridays via Zoom.

Title: Bookkeeping & Budgeting Basics

Who: ASU-affiliated founders who have already won money and need to get started on their bookkeeping. This course will be facilitated by Marcy Maslov, an experienced accountant, entrepreneur, game inventor and Venture mentor.

What: So you’ve won money, now what? This program will teach you how to set up a budget for your money, create your bookkeeping system, and prepare financial statements. These classes will be hands-on with exercises designed to set up your accounting system, track your expenses and manage your budget.
