The business model canvas is a strategic management tool to quickly and easily define and communicate a business idea or concept. Using just one, easy-to-read page, it outlines nine segments that form the building blocks for a business model. Join HEALab at this 2-part workshop for a deep-dive through the process of completing the business model canvas to gain hands-on experience fleshing out your business idea.

Wiley Larsen is currently the manager of the Postdoctoral Affairs Office, housed within the Graduate College at ASU. He is also co-founder of Saccadous, Inc., a medical device startup commercializing eye-tracking technology for the diagnosis of neurological disorders. Wiley previously served as program manager for the Arizona State University’s Entrepreneurship & Innovation Venture Development program, where he assisted ASU faculty and staff with commercializing their innovations. He also serves as an NSF I-Corps Mentor and a Lean Startup Trainer for VentureWell. Wiley earned his Bachelors in Mathematics from Sterling College and his Masters in Education Administration from Kansas State University.

As ASU’s first accelerator focused solely on health and health care solutions, the Health Entrepreneurship Accelerator Lab (HEALab) is an interdisciplinary initiative between J. Orin Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute, Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation, College of Health Solutions, and New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences to empower students, faculty, staff and community members to become health innovators who create real solutions to real problems.

Are you interested in solving sustainability issues within the ASU Community or interested in starting a new venture? Want to put something unique and valuable on your resume? Come to the Sustainability Solutions Summit hosted by Changemaker Center is a day-long ideathon taking place virtually on Saturday, January 30th from 1-4 PM (MST).

Designed to bring a diverse group of students together to develop solutions to sustainability issues facing the ASU community. During the event, participants will work in teams (up to 5) to develop solutions to a given problem statement (see link for further details) within the allotted time. At the conclusion of the event, the judges will announce a winner and that team will receive a custom prize package including advancement to Community Action Grants pitch day for the chance to receive up to $2500 in funding along with a connection to an ASU administrator and/or mentor to help move your idea forward. In order to participate, you must register by Thursday, January 28th at 11:59 PM.

Call for Code Virtual Hackathon Presented by IBM and CGI U: Innovation, Equity and Climate Change

February 5, 4 pm MST – February 6, 2021, 5 pm MST

Hosted by Changemaker Central@ASU and the Edson Entrepreneurship + Innovation Institute

Through intensive collaboration, ASU students will work together to identify key issues within the environmental justice space; build a solution using at least 1 IBM service or API, along with any other open source technology, to address the issue identified; and prepare a pitch of their innovative, tech-based solution for the event judges review. You don’t need to know how to code to participate. 

Leverage at least 1 IBM service or API to win!

Prizes include: 

  •  An invitation to participate in the 2021 CGI U program for the winning team
  •  $1000 for 1st, $500 for 2nd, and $250 for 3rd place teams

Participants must be 18 years old or older to attend.  No prior coding experience is necessary.

Register by February 3, 2021.

The Health Entrepreneurship Accelerator Lab (HEALab) and the Health Entrepreneurship and Innovation Club are excited to welcome Tara Sundem to Arizona State University.

Everyday two Arizona babies are born withdrawing from the substances they were exposed to prenatally. Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, Opiate Use Disorder and Medication Assisted Treatment will be discussed. Come learn about Hushabye Nursery's care model and future opportunities.

Tara Sundem’s career in healthcare has spanned across the valley neonatal intensive care units. She most recently serves as Executive Director at Hushabye Nursery. Under Tara’s leadership, Hushabye Nursery has grown from an idea to ‘save the babies’ in 2016 to a new care model serving the entire family system impacted by the opioid crisis starting prenatally and continuing after discharge from the hospital. Tara holds a Master of Science from Arizona State University and is a board-certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Tara lives in Gilbert with her husband, two sons and dog.

This 'startup crawl' is a bus tour where ~25 current students will visit multiple different stops around Phoenix that follow the ‘entrepreneurial journey’ from launch to scale (including new student start-up “Empowered Coffee Roasters”, State Forty-Eight, Coplex & Galvanized, and Tuft & Needle). This event is free of charge, and lunch will be provided.

An innovative way to retrofit existing technologies and revolutionize the health and wellness industry, KNOSIS seeks to improve users’ health outcomes as well as Mobile Health engagement via Artificial Intelligence, challenges, and User Financial Incentives (UFIs).

The youngest of three and the son of Colombian immigrants, Wilman Vergara has always been interested in health and wellness, devoting most of his life being an elite athlete playing soccer. He has a passion for health technology and innovation with a career in healthcare spanning over 12 years. With all his relevant experience in healthcare he created KNOSIS Health as his Capstone while at Edson College. He graduated with his Master’s in Health Innovation from Arizona State University and also obtained a B.A. in Global Health from ASU.

This action packed two-day event brings together the best creative minds in the West Valley to build real-life solutions to challenges facing our community. This exciting event welcomes community college students of all majors, backgrounds, and experience to build community and practice business entrepreneurial skills needed in today's workforce. Help make the West Valley into a vibrant, innovative community you are proud to call home!

Join ASU Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Glendale Community College and Estrella Mountain Community College as they team up to give emerging innovators an opportunity they will never forget!

The event starts with a presentation of real challenges faced in our community and participants can also bring problems they want to solve. Diverse work teams create real-life solutions and pitch their innovative ideas at the end of Saturday. Local mentors will be available to give feedback and ideas. A panel of community leaders will select one team to win fantastic prizes.

This February 21-23rd, come take part in the first hackathon at Sun Devil Stadium, EmergenTech. An event centered around multiple challenges, participants will not be restricted by what they can create. All ASU students are welcome to participate, collaborate, and learn from each other. Registration is complimentary, and there will be free food, prizes, and swag.

Challenge
To compete, students should be familiar with or eager to learn with one of the following fields:

-Machine Learning
-Computer Science
-Cloud Computing
-Business Analytics & Modeling

Student teams will be given 36 hours to design and develop a protoype from the topics of virtual reality, machine learning, blockchain, and internet of things to apply to the industries of education, government, healthcare, or international development. Student teams of 2-5 can either be assembled ahead of time or will be matched at the start of the event. To be considered competitive, teams will need to formulate a pitch and prototype that will be judged by technical merits, design, and concept feasibility. Furthermore, the student models will need to display predicted tags alongside the video in a novel way which improves the user experience.

Students will have a chance to network with industry representatives. In addition to the knowledge acquired by students competing in the challenges, workshops will be facilitated throughout the event to teach students the skills necessary to be competitive.

Prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place teams. More details around the prizes are to come.

Any ASU students, undergraduate- and graduate-level are invited to participate.

This special Women in STEM focused 2-Day Launch Camp, brought to you by the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) and SEED SPOT, provides women entrepreneurs working in STEM fields with an opportunity to explore starting a venture a safe space to explore and launch their idea. Throughout the program, you will have access to mentors, content experts, AWIS and SEED SPOT's specialty curriculum designed for Women in STEM, and a network of supporters.

Do you have a business idea you've been sitting on? Have you identified a problem you wanted to solve? Do you have that itch to start something that will make the world a better place?

Join us at AWIS and SEED SPOT's 2-Day Launch Camp for Women in STEM in Phoenix, AZ to turn your idea into reality. You will receive the business training, step-by-step curriculum, and support needed to set your venture up for success.
