Join us to learn more about the SparkLabs Frontier-ASU program and to hear the co-founder of Guitar Hero, Kai Huang, share his story!

SparkLabs Frontier-ASU is a new startup accelerator program launched by SparkLabs Group, the global network of accelerators and venture funds. Our mission is to foster the next generation of entrepreneurs with a new program for universities.

We are hosting Kai Huang, Co-founder and CEO of RedOctane (makers of Guitar Hero), at the Turquoise Ballroom in Memorial Union to hear his story of how he bootstrapped a company to a billion dollar business.

The Memorial Union (MU) is located at 301 E. Orange St., on the ASU Tempe campus. The Turquoise Ballroom is located on the 2nd floor of the Memorial Union. Visitor parking is available at the Apache Blvd. Parking Structure which is located at 1230 S. Normal Ave. Tempe, AZ 85281.

1 Million Cups is open to everyone and invites those from every stage of their entrepreneurial journey to participate. It is a community of innovators that welcomes students, business leaders, founders and more. Hear from founders, connect with resources or explore what is happening in the West Valley. The West Valley chapter of 1 Million Cups hopes to capture the diversity of our community and serve as a welcome mat for everyone interested in entrepreneurship in the West Valley. No registration or membership is required. This event happens weekly and is one of three 1 Million Cups communities across the Phoenix Metro Area.

Pitch your idea, receive feedback and network with other ASU students interested in Entrepreneurship + Innovation. Pitching at Open Pitch provides an amazing opportunity to improve your storytelling and could even provide a connection that helps you grow your idea into a venture.

This event will be presented by ASU Entrepreneurship + Innovation. Students have exactly 2 minutes to pitch an idea, no visual aids/PowerPoints/etc. If we have 5 or more students pitch their ideas, there will be a prize of $250 for the “Crowd Favorite!”

We will also be tabling on Tuesday, September 17, 2019, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. outside of the Memorial Union. Please stop by to receive a free “Just Start T-Shirt” and additional resources!

ASU Startup School is a 6-part series created by ASU Entrepreneurship + Innovation and taught by staff from the City of Glendale's Office of Economic Development. The goal is to help entrepreneurs learn the fundamentals of starting and growing a business. At the end of this series, entrepreneurs will be able to express their ideas with an excellently crafted elevator pitch, understand the Business Model Canvas and customer discovery, identified a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and understand the cost and revenue needed to be successful. Finally, we will translate all of this into a Business Plan.

Session One covers an overview of the process from Idea to Profit.

CHANDLER INNOVATIONS TO HOST SECOND ANNUAL STARTUP CONNECTION, SEPT. 20-21
Free Event to Feature Workshops, Panel Discussions and Resources to Help Startups Their Firms

Entrepreneurs can grow their networks while honing their skills in everything from forecasting and financing to branding and building a team at the second annual Startup Connection, Sept. 20-21, in Chandler.

The free two-day event is being hosted by Chandler Innovations, the entrepreneurial development program that promotes the creation and sustainable growth of startups through ongoing mentorship and tech-focused business development curriculum and events.

Steve Reese, chief information officer of the Phoenix Suns, will kick off the event on Sept. 20 with a keynote address that traces the evolution of IT in business and sports from the “fix-it” crew to company innovators. That will be followed by a Shark Tank-style competition at which three companies will pitch their concepts to a panel of esteemed judges.

Then on Sept. 21, participants can immerse themselves in a series of interactive workshops, roundtables and panel discussions with startup and small-business experts.

“We are thrilled to bring together entrepreneurs, investors, industry experts and thought leaders to help companies that are the backbone of our economy,” said Diana White, CEO of Chandler Innovations.

Chandler Innovations is sponsored by the City of Chandler and powered by Moonshot at NACET, a Flagstaff-based nonprofit that helps aspiring entrepreneurs turn big ideas into successful businesses and assists nonprofit leaders and cities in developing entrepreneurial ecosystems.

“Entrepreneurial spirit and forward-thinking leaders have shaped our city into a community of innovation,” said Chandler Councilmember Mark Stewart. “Through the Startup Connection, we can bring together the resources needed to help local entrepreneurs learn how they can build the next major company right here."

The city and Fennemore Craig are the event’s featured sponsors. Arizona State University is the facility’s partner and the Chandler Chamber of Commerce and other event supporters also are involved in the event.

What: Fifteen of the top student-led tech ventures from across the country will pitch in the www.winASU.io semi-finals. A group of ASU Innovation Open sponsor judges will identify the top 5 ventures. Each Finalist team will receive a $5K Zero Mass Water Award and be granted a bid to compete for $100K from Avnet, $25k from ON Semi, and other prizes, during the ASU Innovation Open Finals in February 2019. Additionally, Todd Davis, co-founder of LifeLock will deliver a keynote talk. LifeLock was acquired for $2.3B. There will also be a panel discussion featuring former ASUio contestants, and other regional startup leaders.

Who: All ASU-affiliated student, faculty, staff and alumni-led startup teams who are experimenting within the emerging market of artificial intelligence and voice technology.

What: The ASU Amazon Alexa Venture Challenge inspires and enables ASU-affiliated entrepreneurs to enhance their innovative products or services with voice. As conversational AI advances, we will increasingly interact with technology using voice. ASU innovators are encouraged to be in the vanguard of this evolution.

When: Requests for FREE Echo Dots will be reviewed on a rolling basis through Friday, December 7. The $10,000 seed grant funding will be awarded via the ASU Venture Devils Demo Days, which are held at the end of each fall and spring semester. Venture Devils applications are accepted and processed five times per year, coinciding with the Fall A+B, Spring A+B, and Summer C session start dates.
