Discovery Series Keynote Panel: Reimagine Phoenix

We know that pursuing a circular economy is good for the environment and society, as well as the economy, and research has indicated that community-scale development is ideal for implementing a circular economy. Now the big question is "HOW"… How can local governments and their partners take the idea of the circular economy and make it into a reality? The City of Phoenix is at the forefront of circular economy and has started to set precedents that other local governments can use for inspiration. Learn how to take these models and turn them into a reality in your community.

Apply your skills in developing a solution for one of the nation’s longtime leaders in news, sports and entertainment programming. Known for their empowerment and investment in creators, FOX has built an organization that thrives on creative ideas, operational expertise, and strategic thinking. Participants will have an opportunity to conceptualize and innovate solutions to propel FOX forward in providing a seamless consumer experience.

To compete, students should be familiar with or eager to learn with one of the following fields:

-Machine Learning
-Computer Science
-Cloud Computing
-Business Analytics & Modeling

Student teams will be given 24 hours of time to hack within a 30-hour event to design and develop a machine learning algorithm that can process high resolution video content. Student teams of 3-5 can either be assembled ahead of time or will be matched at the start of the event. Teams will be given a set of labeled images to train their machine learning algorithms, with the intent of extracting data features from the images and using these engineered features to build a model that can predict and label additional images with relevant tags. To win the competition, teams will need to process this video as it streams in nearly real-time, taking into consideration accuracy and fluid prediction syncing. Furthermore, the student models will need to display predicted tags alongside the video in a novel way which improves the user experience.

Students will have a chance to network with FOX leadership. In addition to the knowledge acquired by students competing in the challenge, workshops will be facilitated throughout the event to teach students the skills necessary to be competitive.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded. Free food and swag will be provided. Registration is complimentary and open to all current ASU students.
