That\u2019s why learning when and how to pivot\u2014shifting direction with intention and clarity\u2014isn\u2019t just helpful, it\u2019s essential.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pivoting challenges you to stay flexible, to listen closely to the market and to move with purpose. Pivoting is a sign of growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What Does It Mean to Pivot?<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A pivot means making a purposeful shift in your business strategy to better meet customer needs or improve results. This could be anything from changing your product offering to targeting a different customer group or even reworking your pricing model.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Entrepreneur Eric Ries introduced this concept in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Lean Startup<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, calling it a structured \u201ccourse correction\u201d based on what you\u2019ve learned from customers and the market, not just a random change when things get tough. You launched and got a few early users or clients, but now things have slowed. Unit Economics Don&#8217;t Work<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If customer acquisition costs (CAC) consistently outweigh lifetime value (LTV), the business model may be unsustainable. This could include going from subscriptions to flat fees or freemium models, or finding other ways to build your revenue.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>How to Pivot Effectively<\/b><\/h3>\n<h3><b style=\"font-size: 16px\">1. Make Data-Driven Decisions<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Before pivoting, startups should rely on evidence rather than intuition. Don\u2019t pivot on a hunch, pivot based on evidence. Use simple tools like Google Analytics, surveys, or A\/B testing to learn what\u2019s working. Transparency builds trust, even in tough moments. The model was too broad and did not gain traction. The founders narrowed the idea to a feature that allowed members to get deals.
