Fellowship Opportunities: Local to Global, at ASU and Abroad

 Pendo, age 27, was a kindergarten teacher in Tanzania until she had her second child. Her teacher’s salary was not enough to support her household, which included her younger sister, two children, and an assistant, so she left teaching and began selling merchandise door-to-door. She sold new handbags, shoes, bed sheets, and fabrics, and made about $10-$14 a day from this trade.

After a trip to the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico her freshman year, Courtney Klein became aware of the challenges of developing nations and the power of her generation to affect change. Using her network of friends to fine tune her business plan, Klein applied for funding from ASU’s Edson Student Entrepreneur Initiative.
