ASU students David Hayden (left) and Andrew Kelley (right) accept their award for their winning project at the 2010 Imagine Cup competition. Hayden and his team developed a way for students with poor vision to take notes with ease.

David Hayden is a Computer Science Masters student within the Ira. A. Fulton School of Engineering and the winner of a first place award through Imagine Cup, the premiere technology competition for students in 2009.

Hayden, who developed Note-Taker, an application based software to help the visually impaired, went on to win a $400,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to continue his work. Hayden worked closely with ASU, volunteering this time and working alongside faculty and staff at the Center for Cognitive Ubiquitous Computing (CUbiC), an ASU research lab. Hayden began his project when he, being visually impaired himself, was having trouble keeping up with notes in his classes, driving him to create something that would help him and eventually, countless others.
