Fall courses in Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship Initiatives at the W. P. Carey School of Business announces new courses for fall 2009, counting toward the proposed certificate in Knowledge Entrepreneurship and Innovation (http://mlv.asu.edu). Entrepreneurship-related professional development funding and mentorship is available for students enrolled in these courses. All ASU students are also eligible for start-up funding through the Edson program (http://studentventures.asu.edu). Graduate level credit is available by emailing mylifeventure@asu.edu.
WPC 294: My Life Venture, 3 credit hours – geared toward freshmen and sophomores
My Life Venture is an exciting course that takes students through all aspects of entrepreneurship, including discovery, innovation, and creation. During the semester, participants will learn about themselves, their decisions, and their goals, to see how entrepreneurship can play a role in their lives. Students will be introduced to concepts in entrepreneurship and personal finance in the context of not-for-profit, business, political, and artistic realms. Each week, this hybrid class meets in person for one hour and online for two hours.

WPC 394: Creativity and Innovation, 3 credit hours (My Life Venture II) – geared toward sophomores and juniors
This course introduces the key concepts, visual models, and techniques of creativity and innovation. Students will be exposed to the processes related to developing creative skills and habits. The course will also demonstrate how to apply these new skills, personally and in team situations in order to innovate. Students are introduced to concepts of creativity and innovation as they apply to: individuals and teams (for expression and problem solving), organizations (for-profit and not-for-profit), and disciplines (business, design, engineering, arts, etc.). Students with fewer than 56 credits must request permission to register by emailing mylifeventure@asu.edu. Each week, this hybrid class meets in person for two hours and online for one hour.

MGT 394: Entrepreneurship and Value Creation, 3 credit hours (My Life Venture III) – geared toward juniors and seniors
Introduction to entrepreneurship and lead-in course to the Department of Management's entrepreneurship concentration. Designed to help you understand the important role that entrepreneurship has played, and continues to play, in our economy. The course may also help you decide if you have an interest in starting or being part of an entrepreneurially driven business at some point in the future. In addition to focusing on entrepreneurship from an economic perspective, this course teaches practical skills that would benefit potential entrepreneurs. Each week, this hybrid course meets in person for one hour, online for one hour, and you are required to meet in assigned teams for one hour (time to be determined).
Pre-requisite: ACC 240 or ACC 241 with C grade or better, junior/senior standing in the W. P. Carey School of Business (or completion of WPC 294: My Life Venture AND instructor permission)

WPC 394: Entrepreneurship Education Practicum, 1 credit hour
No teaching experience required – Gain valuable experience through teaching entrepreneurship, leadership and personal finance to local high school students. Class sessions will include training, professional and personal development in business, guest speakers from the community, and activities to enhance students’ knowledge of entrepreneurship, leadership and personal finance. All students are required to commit 2-3 hours weekly to facilitate lessons at local schools. ASU students will benefit through professional development, leadership, public speaking, improved financial literacy, community outreach, and teaching experience. By application only.
